SAN VITO LO CAPO THE BLUE FLAG OF EUROPE

The Italian section of the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education), has again awarded San Vito the Blue Flag of Europe this year. The village won this important award thanks to the gthe quality of its beaches, its waters and its coastline, to the services it offers, to the level of security it boasts, as well as the environmental education it encourages.

The principle criteria for the awarding of the Blus Flag for the beaches:

· Absolute validity of the swimming waters

· No depositing of industrial waste or sewerage on or near the beach

· The forming of a plan on the part of the communes in the event of an environmental emargency

· The forming of an environmental plan on the part of the commune for coastal development

· Waters with little trace of pollution (oil slicks, rubbish etc)

· Beach rubbish bins in adequate numbers

· The beach kept constantly clean

· The data of the swimming waters' analysis readily available

· Readily available information on the Blue Flag of Europe Campaign

· Environmental initiatives that involve the tourists and the residents

· Adequate number of public conveniences in the environs of the beach

· Placement of life belts and life boats

· Absolute prohibition of cars on the beach

· Absolute prohibition of unauthorised camping on the beach

· No dogs allowed on the beach

· Easy access to the beach

· Respect of the prohibition of activities that constitute a danger to bathers

· A balance between bathing activities and respect for nature

· Efficient beach services

· Easy access for disabled
